The announcement that Holly and I were the 2015 Gourmet Traveller’s Viticulturists of the Year was an unexpected surprise. To be standing alongside people like Steve Pannell, Melanie Chester and Warren Randall (the other award winners) was a privilege.
Our vineyard which is situated on the outskirts of Barmera was established twelve years ago with the aim to grow high quality wine grapes. Ricca Terra Farms has demonstrated that the Riverland can produce wines of exceptional quality by adopting a disciplined focus on quality, building a strong management team and working with great winemakers.
While the Gourmet Traveller Wine Award is a fantastic recognition for us and the Riverland we acknowledge that the success of Ricca Terra Farms could not have happened without the support of others, such as vineyard manager Neil Bourton, Yalumba, Bruce and Val Bassham, Sherwood Estate, Riverland Wine, Australian Alternative Variety Wine Show, Tom Ward, Brad Wehr, Toby Bekkers and our three children and family (Henry, George, Matilda, Rick, Judy and Margie).
Our winemaking customers have been critical to Ricca Terra Farms’ success. These passionate and dedicated people have taken our grapes and made them into wine that people around Australia and the World can enjoy (see ‘who we sell to – our customers’ on our web page). These people are so important to us.
Finally the storytellers of the Australian Wine Industry need special thanks. People like Anthony Madigan (WBM), Max Allen, Jane Faulkner, Huon Hooke, Dave Brook and many others have supported Ricca Terra Farms and the Riverland through the words they write.
It is a highlight in our lives to be names the 2015 Gourmet Traveller Wine Viticulturists of the Year. Thank you to Gourmet Traveller, our friends, our family and anyone who has helped us in our journey so far.
Back to the tractor.
