In the long history of Anzac Day, this one will be like no other.  The social distancing rules enforced to limit the impact of the Covid-19 will see the cancellation of many Dawn Services around the country. The post dawn gatherings that are synonymous with Anzac Day, also cannot occur this year, which may strip vital funds from organisations, such as the RSL.

Anzac Day has a special meaning to our family.  While, the Ratcliff family ties to World War II lie in the UK (my grandfather was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross).  Holly’s family has links to Gallipoli, with her grandfather serving in the Australia Military for more than twenty years and was awarded the Pacific Star.

The 2019 Soldiers’ Land Grenache recognises those Australian soldiers who returned from both World Wars.  After the wars, the Government developed the Soldiers Settlement Scheme which provided returning soldiers and their families with small plots of land to farm in the Riverland, South Australia.  While many of these small plots still exist today, many of the original vineyard plantings have been removed with the exception of a few.  Ricca Terra has now discovered and is preserving some of these plantings.  The Ricca Terra Soldiers’ Land is crafted from grapes from 90-year-old Grenache vines that were planted by returning soldiers.  This wine shows an amazing concentration of flavours and the fact that this wine is preserving a vital part of Australia’s history is essential.

Ricca Terra has created Soldiers’ Land not only to preserve the past (the old vineyards) but also to preserve the future (helping organisations look after returning soldiers).

For every bottle of Soldiers’ Land sold, a portion of the profit is donated to the RSL.
